Gastropub: Againn

Its my  birthday and the family took me to a new gastropub called Againn, pronounced (a-GEWN).  Gastropubs are everywhere and they always serve food that hits the spot, i guess it is advance pub food.  I like the idea and concept but for the food you get you shouldn't be charged 3 star prices.  Unfortunately Againn charges way too much for the food.

We were in the wine room because we have a million kids in the family.  I forgot Gabe's birthday so I surprised him with a Cobra attack helicopter.  I thought that would be a good distraction but the kids still ran around.

So have you had banoffee pie?  Well it rocks...rocks hard like the Clash at Shea Stadium.   From wiki...an English pastry based cake made from bananas, creamtoffee and boiled condensed milk (or dulce de leche), either on a pastry base or one made from crumbled biscuits and butter.  I want to eat this everyday and everynight.

We had an assortment of oysters to start.  I love oysters.  I remember watching Man v Food and Adam ate like 12 dozen oysters.  I think i could easily do that.  The oysters were firm, salty and sweet...so good.

I had the rib roast, with boiled taters, yorkshire pudding and bernaise...most of the gastropubs around here never add the meat drippings to the pudding.  That's the best part.  My friend Adrienne makes yorkshire pudding with the drippings and it is heaven...anyway.  The roast was excellent well seasoned, the pudding and taters were mediocre.  The banoffee pie ruled my birthday dinner.

The question is what is better french bistros or gastropubs?

I love chips, yorkshire pudding but a steak frites and onion soup always trumps.

Againn has good food and banoffee pie so go and enjoy.
